The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
At the Lyseo Upper Secondary School, it is possible to complete a distinguished International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB), which provides international qualification for further studies. The Diploma is recognized by universities worldwide. For example, some of our alumni are studying at the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.
The IB Diploma Programme is a secondary education programme for students aged between 16 and 19. Apart from the native language and foreign languages, teaching takes place in English.
In the Finnish IB schools the IB Diploma Programme consists of three academic years: preparatory year and two actual International Baccalaureate years. The students are exposed to the two great traditions of learning: the humanities and the sciences.
The programme is administered by The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) which is a non-profit educational foundation based in Switzerland, Geneva. It is a private, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council of Europe and has consultative status with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In each IB school, there is an IB faculty, which consists of an IB Coordinator and IB teachers for fulfilling the requirements of the IB Programme.
