- Visible entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial attitude!
Entrepreneurship is one of the central strategic focuses of the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium.
According to the Silta 2016+ strategy, the basic mission of the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium includes the provision of skills and abilities to meet the continuously changing requirements of the world of work, to maintain competencies, and to create an entrepreneurial mindset.
In the entrepreneurship model of the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium, the content of the entrepreneurship education is defined through self-motivated internal and external entrepreneurship. The skills of self-motivated internal and external entrepreneurship accumulate from the beginning of the studies from internal entrepreneurship towards the end of the studies and towards external entrepreneurship.
N.B. All tuition regarding the entrepreneurship studies at Jyväskylä Educational Consortium will be run in Finnish and, thus, a good command of Finnish language is needed.
Entrepreneurship School Turning Point
"Entrepreneurship School" is not a separate institution or a college but an entity of entrepreneurship studies available at Jyväskylä College. Students can freely choose total of 5 to 39 study weeks entrepreneurship studies as a part of their Vocational Qualification not considering the educational field they belong to.
Jyväskylä College has built its own systematic entrepreneurship education track, which is known as Entrepreneurship School Turning Point. The courses at Entrepreneurship School follow a rally theme. All students entering the school spend some time in the Paddock to see if they are interested in becoming entrepreneurs. Those who are really keen on running their own company go all the way to the Chequered Flag Stage. Jyväskylä College provides entrepreneurship studies in a way that young people can relate to in their everyday lives, the main method being Learning by Doing. The teacher's role is more like a coach instead of a teacher.
The aim of the first phase, the Paddock, is to stimulate the students’ self-motivation, team working skills and the experience of inner entrepreneurship. All students take a five credit entrepreneurship course. During the second study year, the students progress to the Warm-up Stages, and they can set up a JA-YE minicompany for the year. There are around 400 students running over 100 minicompanies in Jyväskylä College annually. In the third year, the students reach the special stages, on which they can join e.g. a cooperative company as team entrepreneurs. The Chequered Flag is the stage after which the students complete their studies. Then they can either continue working within the cooperative or establish their own company.
