How to get to Jämsä
Jämsä is located between the Cities of Tampere and Jyväskylä ca. 250 km
north from Helsinki with good public transportation (train, bus)
connections. The distance from Jyväskylä is ca. 60 km south.
The easiest and the most common way to travel to Finland is by airplane. Here you can find the information how to get from Helsinki-Vantaa or Tampere Airport to Jyväskylä or from Tikkakoski Airport to Jyväskylä City centre and farther to Jämsä, which is located ca. 60 km south from Jyväskylä.
From Helsinki-Vantaa Airport the easiest way is to hop on number 61 local bus and travel to Tikkurila Station (25-30 mins by local bus, 3 eur, cash only). Bus from the airport to Tikkurila station leaves every 10-15 minutes.
Train journey from Tikkurila to Jämsä takes about 2,5 hours. Regular rates for the train vary between 40-65 eur depending on the time of travel.
Express coaches to Jämsä leave directly from the airport. The coach trip will take around 3 hrs depending on the route.
Tampere - Pirkkala Airport
is serviced by RyanAir, Finnair, Flybe, FinnComm, SAS, airBaltic and Blue1.
Ryan Air has a shuttle service to Tampere centre from terminal 2 for every flight. Single ticket is approximately 6 eur. Local bus service operates to and from Terminal 1 but very irregularly. If your flight arrives at terminal 1, the best way to get to Tampere centre is by taxi. Taxis are waiting for every flight in front of the terminal and the trip will cost around 35eur.
Train connection from Tampere to Jämsä takes about 1 hour and costs around 20-30 eur depending on the time of travel. The last train from Tampere to Jämsä leaves around 22.00.
Express buses from Tampere bus station to Jämsä (1,5 hrs) leave roughly every hour or so starting at 06.00 in the morning and the last bus to Jämsä leaves around 21.00 (9 pm.).

The nearest airport to Jyväskylä is situated in Tikkakoski (23 km north from Jyväskylä). Usually, this is the most expensive route but Flybe has flights from Helsinki Airport to Jyväskylä and they are worth checking out.
Taxis to Jyväskylä city centre cost around 35-40 euros depending on time. You have to order the taxi.
From Jyväskylä city transport centre you can travel to Jämsä either by train (ca. 45 mins and 20 eur) or by bus (ca. 1 hour and 15 eur).
Purchase of tickets
All forms of transport within the country issue printed tickets (incl. VAT number and amount) including taxis and local buses.
Long-distance coaches: Tickets can be purchased from the driver in cash or by credit card.
Trains: Tickets can be purchased from the conductor on the train by credit card but those bought in advance at the station either at the ticket office or the vending machines are several euros cheaper. You can also by tickets online (www.vr.fi) but note that all regular tickets are train specific and if your flight is delayed and you miss your train you will have to buy a new ticket at the station or on the train.
Local buses: Cash only (and no larger than 20 € notes).
Taxis: Cash or credit card payments, all taxis with yellow sign on the roof are metered and, thus, safe to use.
NOTE! Visa Electron cards are usually not accepted on coaches or trains. Ticket vending machines at the train stations only accept cards with a chip and a pin code.
